After some sound advice from some practical people, I realized that it is utter nonsense for me to be feeling this way. As Mel said, "In the circumstances he is in now, he probably has the least control over what he does than at any other time." She is so right. He can't control this. Even his superiors probably can't control this. He does the best he can, and I can't ask for more.
I am so proud of him, what he is doing, what he stands for ... There is no ounce of me that wishes he weren't deployed. He is meant to be there. And this is a time to make us stronger, not weaker. It is also a time for each of us to grow personally.
I resolve to be strong, and I ask for everyone's help. Please keep up your support, kind words and occasional reprimands. I need them. He needs them. Really, anybody who is doing anything at all in this world needs them.
As our beloved friend Walter Cronkite would say, "And that's the way it is."
