A year's worth of vacation packed into two weeks

Adam and I had a fabulous time while he was on leave. We spent most of it traveling, going to Newport, Ore.; Las Vegas; and Scottsdale, Ariz.

Newport was for quiet, relaxing time. We visited Oregon Coast Aquarium, walked on the beach and saw "Zombieland," which we recommend. Mo's Chowder was a must, and we also shopped at the outlet mall in Lincoln City, where I bought Adam a Coach wallet as a "just because" present. I find it humorous that before we met, he didn't even know what Coach was, and now he has one in his back pocket. :)

Las Vegas was awesome. We stayed at New York New York, and it worked out well because we saw "Peepshow," which is at nearby Planet Hollywood, and "Zumanity," which is at New York New York. I thoroughly enjoyed both shows, and it was actually the first time I saw shows in Las Vegas. We walked all over the place -- I'm pretty proud of myself for doing that. :) We ate at Pink's Hot Dogs, a favorite of mine, and won $600, mostly on penny slots. I shot guns! We went to this place called The Gun Store, which allows people to rent guns and shoot them. I shot the Ladies' Package, which includes a pink rifle and a Glock handgun. Adam did the World War II Package, which includes a machine gun. I was really freaked out but actually did fairly well.

After Las Vegas, we drove a rental car to Scottsdale to visit Adam's brother, Andrew, and his girlfriend, Rachael. It was a chill time, watching football and hanging out. Adam and I went to Dave & Buster's for a night, where -- surprise, surprise -- Adam shot stuff. We won enough tickets for him to get a stuffed Homer Simpson.

He left Wednesday, flying the same route back through Dallas, Germany and Kuwait. For those worried, he was not at any time at Fort Hood, where a deadly shooting occurred. He flew commercial to Dallas and so was at only DFW.

Time has flown since he left, and time will fly again until he is back. We thank you for your prayers and thoughts.
